The A Cats and Duck Boats of Barnegat Bay have sailed under the coordination of the Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association since it was founded in 1914 to take charge of all sailboat racing among the member clubs on Barnegat Bay.

The BBYRA established order and scheduling of events, regattas, and class championships on the waters of Barnegat Bay.

The World Duck Boat Championship has been an annual tradition on Barnegat Bay Since 1969. Since 2000 the event has generated renewed interest as a charity event involving restored duckboats.
